Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar: “Sustainability and Innovation in Myanmar’s Urban Growth – Public and Private Sector Initiatives”
Myanmar’s economic transformation of recent years has impacted the urban and rural space of the country alike. The primary urban growth poles, Yangon and Mandalay, have provided fertile ground for SME ventures (foremost in digital service sectors) as well as for a considerable wave of industrial and real estate investments in recent years.
How adaptive are Myanmar’s primary cities though to cope with urbanisation and economic growth in cities? The presentation will allow a zoom into the multi-facetted initiatives of government, the private sector and Myanmar’s international partners to reinvigorating the existing urban space. Furthermore, key projects seeking to develop new urban space and infrastructure — from a “New Yangon” to transformative projects in the industrial, trade, residential and tourism field — will be introduced.
How can modern innovation systems and an entrepreneurial ecosystem also be brought to second-tier cities (such as Taunggyi) and to rural areas? The GIZ Private Sector Development Project and its partners, the ImpactHub Yangon and the tech accelerator Phandeeyar, will present their innovative cooperation in building an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem by b ringing urban champions to rural areas
